Introduction: The programmes were scheduled to be of 170 to 175 contact hours instead of previous 144 contact hours of OPs. The second major change came into being was the introduction of specific curriculum of the programmes called Guru Dakshta, a complete model of Objective, Expected Learning Outcomes, Focus areas/themes, Suggested Activities, Suggested Assessments. Keeping the importance and expertise needed to conduct the programmes successfully HRDC, JU has taken the help of Department of Education, Jadavpur University and Dr. Muktipada Sinha, HOD, Department of Education, Jadavpur University was asked to be one of the coordinator of the programme.
Objectives: The main objective of the mandatory induction programmes is to sensitize and motivate the faculty to adopt learner centered approaches, ICT integrated learning and new pedagogic approaches to teaching-learning assessment tools in higher education. This induction programme will include teaching and research methodologies (flip classrooms, collaborative learning, case approach), use of ICT, curriculum structure and design, sensitization to gender and social diversity, professional ethics, sharing of best practices and updating developments in their field of study, etc. Faculty development has a critical role to play in promoting academic excellence and innovation. This is one of the priority actions aimed at improving the professional capability and performance of teachers to deliver effective and quality learning. Hence, Faculty Induction Programmes will include the four possible types of development: personal (interpersonal skills, career development, and life planning issues), instructional (course design and development, instructional technology) organization (ways to improve the institutional environment to better support teaching) and professional (ways to support faculty members so that they fulfil their multiple roles of teaching, research, and service). Apart from the recommended guideline UGC-HRDC, JU has encouraged Interactive learning through Survey based Group Discussion and evaluated accordingly. About Instructor: Dr. Nandan Bhattacharya is currently Assistant Director of UGC-Human Resource Development Centre, Jadavpur University. Dr. Bhattacharya received his M.Sc. (Zoology) in 1992 and Ph.D. (Zoology) degree from the Vidyasagar University in 2004 He has so far published several articles in different reputed journals and has delivered lectures at different national and international colleges and universities. He has experience to coordinate and designing the course curriculum of Orientation Programmes, Workshops, and Short Term Courses specially conducted for College and University Teachers/Librarians under the UGC Guideline. His research areas are Ecology, Education, communication skill development, Science and Art connection, Theatre in Education, Forum Theatre etc. as research fields. Dr. Bhttacharya is also an acclaimed stage actor and director.
Weekly Plan: The FIP was comprised of 170 to 175. Inauguration and valedictory were organized as per UGC guideline. The first four weeks consisted of lecture sessions. During third week there was Group Discussion. The fifth week was dedicated for the evaluation procedures. During fourth/fifth week case study was done on the issue titled as ‘the challenges and solutions of online education in personal and institutional level’. Inauguration and valedictory were organized as per UGC guideline. Eminent scholars/Researchers/Faculties were invited to deliver inaugural and valedictory lectures and Hon’ble VC and/or PRO VC and Registrar, Deans of different faculties of the university were present as guests. Valedictory by Prof. Chiranjeeb Bhattacharya PRO. VC, JU. First week comprised of 9 lectures of 14 sessions including the Keynote address. Second week: 12 lectures of 24 sessions Third week: 10 lectures of 20 sessions (one holiday) Fourth week: 10 lectures of 20 sessions, Survey based Group Project & Discussion (On different aspects of Guru Dakshta) of 4 sessions. Fifth week: 5 lectures of 1 sessions, Seminar presentstion for evaluation of 8 sessions, Sixth week: MCQ for evaluation, Feedback from participants, Microteaching for evaluation of 4 sessions
