Course Name: Workshop on NEP2020: Future initiative for Heads of Departments of Pondicherry University

Introduction: The workshop is intended to gather all the Heads of the department at Pondicherry University to discuss the future initiatives to be taken up by them for the effective initiation of implementation of NEP 2020 during this academic year. The workshop was inaugurated by Prof. Gurmeet Singh, Vice-Chancellor, of Pondicherry University. He stressed the importance of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and its implications for higher education. He said that the NEP is a roadmap for the transformation of the education system in India and that it is the responsibility of all stakeholders to work together to implement it. The keynote address was delivered by Prof. Balaguruswamy, Academic Advisor to the Governor of Jharkhand. He spoke about the key features of the NEP and its implications for the curriculum, pedagogy, assessment, and research in higher education. He also highlighted the importance of teacher education and capacity building in the implementation of the NEP. The workshop also included an interactive session where the heads of departments discussed the challenges and opportunities of implementing the NEP. They also shared their ideas on how to make the NEP a successful phenomenon for implementation. The workshop was opened by Prof. Panch. Ramalingam, Director (i/c), UGC-HRDC, Pondicherry University. The event was concluded by Dr. Srujana Kathi, Asst. Professor at UGC-HRDC Pondicherry University by thanking all the stakeholders.
Objectives: The NEP 2020 is a major overhaul of the education system in India. It aims to make education more holistic, flexible, and student-centric. The NEP emphasizes the importance of multidisciplinary education, problem-based learning, and experiential learning. It also calls for greater emphasis on research and innovation. The NEP is a challenge but also an opportunity for higher education institutions in India. Heads of departments need to play a key role in implementing the NEP.

About Instructor: Prof. Panch. Ramalingam is Director(i/c) and Course Coordinator, UGC-HRDC, Pondicherry University. He holds three post-graduate degrees (MA in Psychology, MA in Education, and MA in Political Science). After completing M. Phil, he received a Doctoral degree in Educational Counseling Psychology from Annamalai University. He had his undergraduate in Mathematics (B.Sc.). He has received a Diploma in Pharmacy from Madurai Medical College and registered as a Pharmacist. He has rich experience of over 30 years in teaching and coordinating the Orientation, Refresher Courses, and other programs related to teachers' professional development in higher education. He was also designated to initiate a new clinical psychology department and educational technology at Pondicherry University Karaikal Centre.
