Introduction: In higher education, faculty development is central to the issues of quality and excellence. For this, the Faculty Induction Programme (FIP) was introduced in 2019 through the Human Resource Development Centres (HRDCs) and Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya National Mission on Teacher Training (PMMMNMTT) centres across the country. The Faculty Induction Programme was designed to include training and capacity development in four areas: i) personal (interpersonal skills, ii)career development, and life planning issues), iii)instructional (course design and development, instructional technology) organization (ways to improve the institutional environment to better support teaching) and, iv)professional (ways to support faculty members so that they fulfill their multiple roles of teaching, research, and service). The UGC guidelines for the Guru Dakshta /Faculty Induction Programme were strictly adhered to. The course extended over a period of 30 working days, ie. 180 contact hours in an online mode on the google meet platform. Reputed resource persons from premier institutions of learning across India were invited as resource persons. Expected Course Outcomes include sensitisation and motivation of the faculty to adopt learner centered approaches, ICT integrated learning and new pedagogic approaches to teaching- learning, assessment tools in higher education.
Objectives: • To provide a comprehensive overview of Indian Higher education system. • To provide essential knowledge and skills to be an active contributor in curriculum designing, outcomes learning procedure and choice-based credit system. • Enable teachers to equip themselves with high quality teaching, learning and assessment tools. • Encourage participants to use the potential of technology in teaching and assessment. • To enable participants to attain basic skills in personal – emotional development and counselling. • Enabling participants to acquire research skills, leadership qualities and facilitating one’s own. professional development. • To promote academic integrity among participants to have a trustworthy and high quality academic outputs from higher education institutions. • To sensitise Constitutional Values, Human Rights and Fundamental Duties that help participants to internalize the need for an egalitarian and sustainable society. • To develop awareness on Environmental Consciousness and Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) among participants and promote critical evaluation of the current status and future potential of India about SDG. • To enable the participants to deal effectively with rapidly changing circumstances, improve internal management and institutional performance.

About Instructor: Dr. Reetesh Sah, M.A., Ph.D. in History From Kumaun University, Nainital. Presently he is Assistant Director at UGC-Human Resource Development Centre, Kumaun University Nainital. He has fifteen years of teaching experience at UG & PG level in Kumaun University. He has presented a number of research papers in National and International Seminars. He is co-author of three books also. He was awarded Junior Research Fellowship of the Indian Council of Historical Research, New Delhi. Recently he was awarded the Raksha Rajya Mantri Commendation from Ministry of Defence, Government of India,2022 and Defence Secretary Medal and Commendation 2019 from Ministry of Defence, Government of India. He was recipient of Acharaya Narendra Dev Alankar by Acharaya Narendra Dev Shiksha Nidhi, Up/Uttarakhand for his significant contribution in Higher Education. He is associated with the plantation work and programme of keeping the lake clean; with the team of student volunteers cleaning the shores of the lake is carried out. subsequently they retrieve dirt, like plastic and polythene bags, bottles, Wrappers, and dead animals etc. from the lake. The basic purpose is to sensitize the students. He is member of District Plantation Committee, District Forest Fire committee and Tree felling committee of District Forest Division, Nainital, Uttarakhand.

Certification: As per UGC Guidelines The grading will be as follows: (i) A+: 85 percent and above (ii) A: 70 per cent to less than or equal to 84 percent (iii) B: 60 per cent to less than or equal to 69 per cent (iv) C: 50 per cent to less than or equal to 59 per cent (v) F: Below 49 per cent Those teacher participants who get F grades are required to repeat the programme after a gap of one year without financial commitment to UGC-HRDC.

Assessment Plan Method: The total marks are to be fixed at 100 and the same may be decided in the following manner: (i) Overall response - 20 (ii) Seminars (in diverse topics mentioned in component A) - 20 (iii) Project/survey/others (topics like climate change, environment and social connect etc.) - 20 (iv) ICT based teaching/ MOODLE/ Micro-teaching/participation - 20 (v) Multiple-choice objective tests -20 The above distribution may be adjusted to meet specific requirements. The grades will be indicated on the certificate to be given to the teacher participant at the end of the programme.
