| Introduction: | The University Grants Commission, in pursuance of the National Policy on Education 1986 and its programme of action, had set up 66 Academic Staff Colleges (ASCs) in different Universities/Institutions in the country. The Academic Staff Colleges so established are conducting specially designed orientation programmes for newly appointed lecturers and refresher courses for in service teachers. As a part of the same, the UGC-HRDC, University of Calicut conducted 3 rd Refresher course in “Development Studies” for college/University faculty of Commerce, management and economics, from 31/1/23 to 13/2/23 for a period of 14 days in online mode. There were a total of 48 participants, where 36 teachers were from the subject commerce and management and remaining 12 participants from economics. The objectives of the course were: |
| Objectives: | 1. To inculcate an in-depth knowledge of development studies in Commerce, management and economics. 2. To be a forum to abreast of the latest advances in the subject of development studies. 3. To provide opportunities for serving teachers to exchange experiences with their peers and mutually learn from each other. For implementing the objectives and to ensure the success of the same, a total of 24 distinguished resource persons were taken part in the course, including the chief guest for inauguration of the course (Dr. E. K. Satheesh, Registrar, University of Calicut) and the keynote speaker of valedictory session (Dr. Saji Gopinath, Vice Chancellor at Kerala University of Digital Sciences, Innovation and Technology). The refresher course was able to cover vital areas of development studies by the subject experts from State and Central Universities within and outside Kerala. The topics covered include Fiscal Reforms and its Implication on Government Finance and the Economy, Derivatives, Dimensions of Sustainable Finance, Sustainable Development- Whither Kerala and India, Option Strategies, Understanding Corporate Strategies and Growth Pattern of Indian Industries, Social Exclusion, Mixed Methodology, Toward Sustainable Technologies, Teaching and Research in Kerala’ and India’s GST Paradigm and the Trajectory of Fiscal Federalism, Use of Models in Research, Sustainable Development, Balance of Payment, Climate Change and Developmental Challenges |
